Fran Oficialdegui

I am a freshwater conservation ecologist interested in the study of biological invasions, and their ecological and socio-economic impacts under the current scenario of climate change and globalisation. Having a special predilection for invasive crayfish species, my current research interests focus on:

(1) tracing the invasion routes and studying pathways of introduction for          aquatic invasive species;

(2) understanding, from a molecular, behavioural and physiological point          of view, how introduced species are able to survive, thrive and expand        in non-native areas;

(3) investigating the role of non-native crayfish as potential hosts and                vectors of emerging infectious diseases that is causing severe declines          in amphibian populations;

(4) developing strategies for the management of invasive species from              ecological and social points of view.
